The Texas Homestead Exemption is a tax deduction.  It is a legal means originally designed to protect the value of properties when a homeowner's spouse dies.  How could it benefit Fredericksburg Texashomeowners? In the State of Texas, property owners over age 65 and disabled property owners may claim a tax deduction for up to 20 percent of their annual real estate tax assessment.  Texas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and South Dakota have some of the most extensive protections of any state in the nation.

The tax reduction savings may be substantial under the Texas Homestead Exemption.  For example, a home valued at $200,000 would be taxed at $160,000.  A Fredericksburg TX property valued at $500,000 would be taxed at a $400,000 value.  Other exemptions are also available including an amount towards School District Taxes and other taxing units.
